Yearbook Color Scheme
Consider color. A good design concept will work in black and white or in process color, but adding color helps determine mood.
“When you start incorporating color, it can be lively. It can be relaxing. It can even be obnoxious,” Dunlap said.
Designers need to understand the more conceptual aspects of color, like the way readers respond emotionally to colors and color combinations.
Dunlap is right. Color use helps define personality. If over used or ineffectively used, the power of color becomes a negative force and detracts from the design rather than enhancing it.
Remember the function of design is to draw the reader in and then to guide the reader through the book or the spread in a progressive way.
If color draws attention to itself, then the progress through the story of the year is interrupted or brought to a complete halt. Mixing black and white and color photography adds interest and an extra dimension to a spread.
Explore this website, it is a really good guide to follow when you pick your colors.
